Template:Quote/doc

From KDE Community Wiki

{{Quote}} is a template meant for pull-quotes, which stand apart from the text of a page. Pull-quotes work best when used with short quotes, and at the start or end of a section, to help emphasize the content of the section. For long quotations within the text of a page, the HTML <blockquote> element is generally more appropriate.

Usage

  1. {{Quote|quote text}}
  2. {{Quote|quote text|Origin of quote|Cited source}}
  3. {{Quote|quote text|quotes-size=2em|font-size=24pt|bgcolor=darkslategray}}

Only the first parameter is required.

Parameters

  • Parameter 1 (required): text of the quote; use <br /> between paragraphs.
Note: if the quote text contains one or more "=" (equal signs), then the template must be called as {{Quote|1=quote text}}

The other two (unnamed/positional) parameters can be used to provide attribution for the quote:

  • Parameter 2: Origin of the quote (i.e. the name of the person or group that wrote or spoke the text being quoted; can include links.
Note: if the text contains one or more "=" (equal signs), then the template must be called as {{Quote|quote text|2=quote origin}}
  • Parameter 3: Source of the quote (publication title, speech, etc.); can include links.
Note: if the text contains one or more "=" (equal signs), then the template must be called as {{Quote|quote text|quote origin|3=quote source}}

The next three optional parameters can be used to change the color or scale the primary visual elements of the quote up and down to suit larger or smaller quotes, either the graphical quotation marks that appear on each side, the quote text itself, or the background of the entire pull-quote.

  • Parameter "quotes-size": scale of the the quotation marks on each side, in whole or half em units, from 0.5em to 2.5em; the default size represents 1em scale.
  • Parameter "font-size": desired size of the quote text itself, in any unit value acceptable to the CSS3 specification.
  • Parameter "bgcolor": the background color for the entire pull-quote, in any form acceptable to the CSS3 specification; automatically triggers a thin, gray border to encapsulate the quote as well.

Examples

  • As Amy Tan once said, {{Quote|External success has to do with people who may see me as a model, or an example, or a representative. As much as I may dislike or want to reject that responsibility, this is something that comes with public success. It's important to give others a sense of hope that it is possible and you can come from really different places in the world and find your own place in the world that's unique for yourself.}}
