Proposing your own Promo ideas
The Promo group has accomplished a great deal since it was formed, but there will always be new and creative ideas we have not yet thought of yet. If you have an idea that you'd like us to consider please don't hesitate to let us know!
The best way to reach the group is by joining our mailing list and/or emailing us at [email protected].
You can also join our IRC channel #kde-promo on freenode, or come to our Telegram group.
Tips for proposing new ideas
That said, it is worth explaining how the team works a bit in order to help you successfully pitch your idea or to get meaningful feedback.
- Please keep in mind that the team is a group of unpaid volunteers who enjoy spending their free time helping spread the word about KDE. Sometimes this means you may not get an immediate response about your idea. But don't worry - our mailing list is quite active and someone should usually respond within a day or two. If you propose your idea in IRC/Telegram, you will likely get an answer even faster.
- Again, due to the volunteer nature of the group, people may not always have time to take on a new project. When proposing your idea, please keep in mind that you will have to take the lead in making it happen. Showing up on the list and telling others that they have to make your idea into a reality for you will not work.
- Before pitching your idea, check our Workboard to make sure your idea is not a duplicate of something we're already working on.
- Try to set concrete, achievable goals with your ideas. If your idea is too vague or seems impossible to do, it is much harder to convince others to help you out.
- If you have suggestions for small tasks that a new person could work on, you may add them to the Join KDE Promo page, but please contact the mailing list and let us know you've done so.
Hopefully these points will help newcomers understand how best to achieve their goals for promoting KDE. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
