Dolphin

  • Dolphin now by default shows custom information for special folders (https://invent.kde.org/system/dolphin/-/merge_requests/731). Examples (This is quite verbose so promo gets the point, it doesn't need to be this elaborate or at all in the announcement):
    • The list of recently used files and folders shows the modification time by default and sorts by it so the most recent items are actually at the top by default. The actual location of the item on disk is also displayed.
    • The Trash folder by default shows for each file when and where it was removed from.
    • While searching, the results views are adjusted: For images it shows the image dimension and creation time, for audio the track author, album and duration, for a non-specific search (i.e. what happens when one does a normal search in Dolphin) the results will be shown next to their path (where they actually are) and their modification time by default.
  • Dolphin now shows a visible error message when you use a keyboard shortcut to trigger an action that can’t be performed in the current context, like cutting a file in a read-only folder https://invent.kde.org/system/dolphin/-/merge_requests/738
  • Better animation:
  • Arrow key navigation while using right-to-left languages works as expected now (instead of acting like a psychopath who misinterprets every arrow key press). https://invent.kde.org/system/dolphin/-/merge_requests/700
  • Dolphin's compact view mode works well in right-to-left languages now. https://invent.kde.org/system/dolphin/-/merge_requests/742

Kate

  • Kate now considers a file as recent when it’s saved or closed, not just when it’s opened. This means your recent files list will no longer omit files you kept open for a long time while working on them https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486203

KWrite

Gwenview

Gwenview now has a minimal “Spotlight View” mode in which all the normal UI is hidden, and all you see is the image and the window titlebar https://invent.kde.org/graphics/gwenview/-/merge_requests/222
