KDE's Mission
To fulfill our Vision, KDE has taken on the mission to
- create software products which give users control, freedom and privacy
- provide users with excellent user experience and quality
- enable users regardless of their location, background, abilities, operating system and device
- promote the Free and Open-Source ecosystem
KDE's Strategy to achieve it
To provide control, freedom and privacy, KDE produces software that
- users can adapt to their needs (being simple by default and powerful when needed)
- makes it easy for people to improve our products and create their own adaptations
- builds on open standards to prevent "lock-in"
- integrates well with existing online services sharing the same values
- gives users full control over which information about them or their behavior is ever collected or transmitted
- provides usable security and privacy features to protect against surveillance and data theft
To create a convincing user experience, KDE creates software that aims to
- have consistent, easy to use human interfaces
- delight users with great features and quality
- provide a seamless user experience
- integrate well with other Free products to complete the experience
To reach as many users as possible, KDE strives to create software that
- is available on major Free and proprietary operating systems, platforms and devices, with the help of Qt and other state of the art technologies.
- interoperates well with proprietary software, formats and services
- includes high-quality translation and localization
- empowers users independent of their abilities
To promote the development of Free and Open-Source Software, KDE
- maintains a diverse and inclusive community
- offers frameworks and libraries which facilitate the development of high-quality applications
- provides a great learning environment and great opportunities for personal development
- mentors people to contribute to Free and Open-Source software
- collaborates with other organizations which share our values for mutual benefit
