A list of cool features in KDE software that might form the basis of talking points or demonstrations of KDE software:

  • KWin desktop effects, particularly the useful ones
  • Kopete - “You’ve got all your chat accounts in one app?”
  • Amarok - Wikipedia, Flickr, YouTube, Magnatune etc integration
  • Digikam - it’s just so cool all round, but the various export plugins are killer features
  • KRunner - a real swiss army knife (perhaps more for a technical audience)
  • Marble - very visual anyway, but fire up the OpenStreetMap view and people want it
  • Gwenview – it’s just so shiny, particularly in full-screen mode
  • K3b - Application for CD / DVD / Blueray authoring. Use instead of Nero / PowerISO / Easy CD Creator. Can rip, copy, erase and or burn with a number of supported formats, using application interface or guided wizards.
  • KMyMoney2(soon to be version 4) - Application for home money management. Use instead of Microsoft Money. Hides the complexity of double accounting in simple to edit transactions. Customizable reports show you where your money is being spent, with future projections. Able to import from online bank websites.
  • Kaffine - Application for DVD and video viewing. Replaces PowerDVD / Microsoft Media Player. Intuitive interface and able to skip the none skipable parts of a DVD.
  • Kdenlive - Application for video editing. Video editing for users. Similar to Sony Vegas
  • Dolphin - Very easy file browsing(the + mark feature for example), nice previews, split feature
  • Konquerer - F9 -> Tab "Services" -> "Audio CD Browser" -> "copying" an audio CD. Cow-Orker: "You CAN'T do that!" Me: "Right, but KDE can."
