Key specs:
* 10' tablet at 1280x800
* Intel Oak Trail platform
** Intel Atom Z670 processor
** GMA600 video card
=== Balsam / openSUSE 12.1  ===
* The Balsam 12.1 LiveCD runs correctly, except for the VGA mode. It starts in 1024x768x16 mode instead of 1280x800x32. You can get the colour depth of 32 by passing the ''vga=ask'' option to the kernel and then selecting 1024x768x32. Unfortunately, the current graphics driver ''psb_gfx'' version does not support the native resolution.
* The graphics driver doesn't provide any acceleration, therefore the overall performance is rather poor. It should improve if the effects are disabled.
* Games that don't require fast framerate work correctly (KSudoku 2D, KMahjong).
* None of the powersaving options work (turning off the screen, changing the brightness of the screen, suspending), so the battery only holds for 4 hours as opposed to 8 on Windows.
* Everything else works correctly (touchscreen, Plasma Active features etc.).

This page contains experiences and setup tips for target devices for Plasma Active Tablet. If you are running Plasma Tablet on a device not listed here, or if you would like to share setup tips, please add this information. We would especially appreciate instructions for running Plasma Active on devices such as the N900, and panda/beagle board.

ViewSonic Viewpad 10

Key specifications:

  • 10' tablet at 1024x600
  • Intel Atom
  • Hanvon touchscreen
  • Approximate price: 470€ (dutch brick n mortar store)

openSUSE 11.4

  • openSUSE 11.4 runs fine on this machine, graphics seem reasonably fast but the Blur effect in KWin's Dektop Effects has to be disabled
  • Problem with Hanvon touchpad, sending too many click events, makes touchscreen almost unusable. Update to 2.6.38 from openSUSE:Tumbleweed fixes this problem and makes it fully functional.
  • The system comes with windows 7 and Android 1.6 initially. One can keep the dualboot option, Android takes by default 2 GB of the internal storage, win7 gets the rest. The system boots with a standard grub, when installing openSUSE 11.4, make sure you note the grub config for Android so you can add this back to grub later on. oS 11.4 doesn't add Android automatically to grub's config.
  • Network via wifi works out of the box
  • Suspend works and is reasonably fast
  • Battery life 4 - 5 hours with web-browsing

Meego

Runs without apparent problems

WeTab

Key specifications:

  • 11,6" tablet at 1366x768
  • Intel Atom
  • Approximate price: 350€; German ebay sells these devices out for ~250€

openSUSE 11.4

  • To install openSUSE 11.4 on this device you need to have a Bios, that boots directly from USB. To update the Bios, you need to install a Dos-Disk on a usb-stick with the new Bios. You must modify the MBR, that you can boot from this stick. Origin: german forum thead on www.wetab-community.com about flashing the Bios
  • After the installation of openSUSE 11.4 the touchscreen is not functional
    • After removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf the touchscreen works fine
    • Alternatively boot with the kernel parameter "usbhid.quirks=0xeef:0x72a1:0x40"
  • The system comes with WeOS, a modified Meego Linux. The dualboot with the grub bootloader from openSUSE 11.4 work without any problems. Only that you need to plug in a usb keyboard to choose an entry. The touchscreen is not functional at this stage.
  • Network via wifi works out of the box, after networkmanager is enabled in Yast.
  • Last step is to add the plasma-active packages.

MeeGo

This device comes with MeeGo out of the box.

ExoPC

Key specifications:

  • 11,6" tablet at 1366x768
  • Intel Atom 1.66Ghz
  • 1Ghz RAM (some models come with 2GB)

Balsam / openSUSE 11.4

  • Network via wifi works out of the box, after networkmanager is enabled in Yast.
  • Last step is to add the plasma-active packages.
  • In order to make the touchscreen work, install the 3.0 kernel-desktop and kernel-desktop-base packages. Those are provided in the plasma-active repository

If you run into problems, have a look at the WeTab section above, the hardware is mostly the same.

MeeGo

This device comes with MeeGo out of the box.

Lenovo Ideapad 10

Key specs:

  • 10' netbook with capacitive touchscreen
  • Intel Atom
  • large internal hdd
  • good testing workhorse.

openSUSE 11.4

openSUSE 11.4 runs fine on this hardware, including the touchscreen, suspend, etc. Multitouch does not work, unknown why, it works on MeeGo.

MeeGo

This device is also used by MeeGo as demo hardware for their discontinued Netbook UX.

Fujitsu Stylistic Q550
