Using KDE in course projects, assignments and theses

Students from all over the world with a diverse background choose KDE for their research and implementation work.

KDE-based student projects (Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France)

Several younger and older students worked together on several extensions to KDE applications such as Umbrello and KPlato in a team project in 2007. Improvements to these modelling tools will be something the students can directly benefit from in their future use.

“Google Summer of Code” bounties programme (international)

Google sponsors several students to work on specific needs defined by the KDE project, be them application enhancements, advanced widgets or integration efforts. The so-called SoC is a yearly event going strong since 2005. Many students take the chance to learn practical experience during their lecture-free time, and at the same time get some compensation and a unique plus for their CV!

Studying the nature of KDE as a project (Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt am Main, Germany)

KDE, its structures and developer motivation have been part of a humanities sciences study. It analysed the composition of contributors, the reason behind subprojects and work load sharing in general, quality control and licencing, as well as the motivation behind the contributions.
